Sometimes the most random of things will trigger a sequence of thoughts that impacts us in surprising ways. Like everyone else, I am ecstatic to see the return of the two US journalists who were held as prisoners in North Korea for the past 120+ days. As I listed to Mrs. Ling describe her experience it really got me thinking about what that must have been like. I thought about sitting in a jail cell in a foreign country wondering if you’ll ever be saved. I thought about how much I’d be praying for God to help me out of that situation and that’s when it hit me. What scriptures would I ‘stand’ on in my request to God if I had no Bible at hand? How much scripture have I committed to memory that could sustain me in a situation like the aforementioned journalists? The answer for each of us is different but I guarantee you we all could stand to commit more scripture to memory.
Just food for thought tonight.
