In corporate culture people who are totally committed to the company are said to have “drunk the Kool-Aid”. This statement has become synonymous with unwavering loyalty and an almost over the top sense of duty to the company. I find it ironic that we live in an era where corporations are more concerned with the bottom line than their employees; yet the sense of corporate loyalty is stronger than ever. How can this be? How did we get here?
Perhaps a better question is “Why haven’t people drunk the Kool-Aid” when it comes to Jesus? Why is our sense of loyalty to God strongest when we need or want something from God? Why can we behave one way in front of our church friends yet completely differently with our “other” friends and coworkers? The answer is simple: we haven’t drunk His Kool-Aid.
I’m thoroughly convinced people put their faith in corporations and things of this world because they haven’t seen anything better to put their faith in. Often times they haven’t seen it because no one is showing it to them.
It’s time to start walking the walk in EVERY aspect of our lives. Anyone who has encountered the Lord can’t do it any other way. You can’t help but go all out for Jesus. You can’t help being Souled-Out. We know God wouldn’t have it any other way. 2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV) tells us “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline”. What does this tell you? We don’t need to compare translations, consult a study guide, or a commentary to understand that God gives us what we need to walk it out. All it takes is a genuine desire to do so. All you have to do is drink HIS Kool-Aid.
Remember, the world is watching. You’re the Jesus that people see on a daily basis. The question is are you representing Jesus or something else? How can you be a vessel that God uses to lead people to Him if you aren’t showing them who Jesus really is? I’ll borrow a line from Gatorade but change “Is it in you?” to ask “Is He in You?”.
Well….is He?
